Metro raises awareness of free services in Soshanguve

Other Tshwane regions will also host similar events during the next two school holidays.

The Tshwane metro hosted an event to make residents aware of the services available in the community for free in Soshanguve extension 14 last Friday.

Metro spokesperson Goitsemang Molaeng said the project started in region 1 due to the large population size.

She said the main aim was to offer community members information about services available in the area.

“In the case of emergency, then they would know where to go,” she said.

“There was health education whereby several service providers, both from the government and non-governmental institutions showcased their services, provided information and contact details and engaged with community members.

“HIV testing services were also provided.”

Molaeng said a physical trainer offered group fitness classes that were well enjoyed.

NGO, Pink Drive specialising in cancer prevention, offered among others free breast examinations that were utilised by more than 60 community members on the day,” he said.

She said the hosts shared reproductive health information, how to access assistance with alcohol and substance abuse and how to manage mental health problems.

Molaeng said the need for such an event was identified during the metro health department’s strategic planning for the new financial year.

“Other Tshwane regions will also be incorporated with similar events during the next two school holiday periods,” she said.
