Man shot in the chest twice in Hazelwood

The man was transported to the hospital by community members after he was found in a critical condition in his car.

A man believed to be from Laudium sustained serious injuries after he was shot in the chest two times on Wednesday morning in Hazelwood, Waterkloof.

Police spokesperson Captain Anton Breedt told Rekord that the man was found unconscious on Albert Street at about 05:30.

Breedt said the victim was in a Toyota Corolla when the unknown suspects shot at his car four times.

“The victim was found with two gunshot wounds to his chest and he was in a critical condition.

“He was rushed to the hospital by community members after they found him unconscious in his car,” he said.

Breedt said it is suspected that the victim was shot at another location but managed to drive to Albert Street and came to a standstill as he couldn’t drive any further.

He said it is not clear if the victim was alone in the car during the shooting, but police have launched an investigation to uncover more details.

No arrests have been made.

Despite reports by the community that the shooting might have been a “hit” Breedt said police can’t confirm if this was true.

Police urged anyone who might have any information regarding the shooting to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or to visit the nearest police station.
