An anti-corruption campaign at Mams Mall on Tuesday encouraged residents to report corruption at government institutions.
“Not necessarily all people are aware of corruption, but there is a perception that all government departments are corrupt,” said Robbie Senoelo of the Department of Government Communications.
Senoelo said the purpose of the campaign was to educate people about corruption in government departments.
He said they invited the Hawks, special investigation units, Sassa, home affairs and the Department of Justice to create awareness about the issue.
“The government institutions spoke to the public about their services and handed out pamphlets with all the necessary information that is needed to avoid corruption.
“It is a reality that there is corruption within government departments,” said Senoelo.
“If a government department doesn’t give you receipts, then report that institution of such activities.”

Resident Mariam Mtshweni said campaigns such as this were necessary.
“There are people who stand outside government institutions pretending to help people to fill in forms and then demand payment afterwards.
“Government institutions should look into people pretending to be working for government institutions and remove them.”
Resident Jack Ngobeni agreed the anti-corruption campaign would help a lot of people and “it should not end here”.
He said the campaign should be held every month to remind people about corruption such as people who pay money to jump long queues.
“Fighting corruption is everyone’s business.”
