Pretorians to compete for best boerewors recipe bragging rights
The 2022 Championship Boerewors winning recipe will also be for sale in retail stores nationwide, just in time for Heritage Day.
Two contestants based in Pretoria cooked their way into the finals of the annual 2022 Championship Boerewors competition that is set to take place in Cape Town on August 27.
They will join eight other finalists to prepare and cook their boerewors for a judging panel consisting of Zola Nene, Zanele Van Zyl, James Khoza, Martin Kobald and Carmen Niehaus.
The search for South Africa’s best boerewors recipe has intensified as judges selected the best recipes for the popular competition that continues to receive thousands of annual entries.
This year’s top 10 finalists, who include 2020 winner Delano Jasper, were selected following multiple rounds of judging by an expert panel from the South African Chefs Association (Saca).
They are (in no particular order):

– Johan Grundling (Doornkloof East, Gauteng)
– Delano Jasper (Wellington, Western Cape)
– Wise Maabane (Marisa, Limpopo)
– Phozisa Magoda (Finsantelkraal, Western Cape)
– Welcome Magoso (Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal)
– Steven O’Connor (Melkbosstrand, Western Cape)
– Siyabonga Radebe (Brooklyn, Gauteng)
– Christiaan Roodt (Cradock, Eastern Cape)
– Abram Sepotokele (Randfontein, Gauteng)
In celebration of its 30th anniversary, the winner and runners-up of the 2022 Championship Boerewors competition will be awarded cash prizes for the first time:
First prize: A Toyota Fortuner 2.4 GD6 RB AT plus R50 000 cash
Second prize: R30 000 in cash
Third prize: R20 000 in cash
