Mr and Miss Uitsig winners announced at Gala
The school pulled out all the stops to make the night unforgettable.
Uitsig High School’s annual Mr and Miss Uitsig (MMU) winners were announced at their gala that took place last week.
According to the recruiter and brand manager, Manda Bester, a total of 20 – 10 male and 10 female – students entered to win the coveted prize.
A panel of teachers involved with MMU conducted interviews with those taking part in the competition.
Questions were asked and each learner was scored based on their appearance, posture, self confidence, eye contact and answering of questions.
The highest scored girls and boys go through to the final.
At the gala event they are scored on the interview by professionals, informal wear, formal wear and how well they answered the questions.
Interviews were conducted by Jessica Shannon and Oriana Somoza-Medina from a media and video production company.
Tenisha Gounder was announced as this year’s Miss Uitsig while Rakesh Keshav donned the crown for Mr Uitsig.
The rest of the prizes went to the following contestants.
– Second Prince and Princess: Shachin Darmalingam and Buhle Dlomo
– First Prince and Princess: Tumelo Mokoena and Boitumelo Kgomari
– Mr Personality – Joy Henna
– Miss Personality – Annie Murinda
– Mr Photogenic – Bradley Nkosi
– Miss Photogenic – Reegan Mervitz
The school was honoured to have international model Belinde Schreuder as the evening’s MC.
The judging panel included some special names, making the students’ prizes all the more special.
Gerjo Oosthuizen, former Mr South Africa finalist; Tintswalo Mnisis, model, events and pageant host; Valentine Murandu, fashion model; Ms Karin Louw, head of culture Uitsig High School were the judges.
The school is very pleased with how the event went, and feel the winners were all deserving of their respective prizes.
Bester feels the school made the night very special for everyone.
“They all looked great and we wanted to make the evening as special possible and pulled out all the stops we could.
“I don’t think it’s a night they will soon forget.”
