Centurion residents still without power after smoke at substation
Metro blames outage on constant load-shedding by Eskom.

Some parts of Centurion were still without electricity on Friday afternoon after the NIVS substation was damaged the previous evening.
Areas still without power were Southdowns Estate, Agricultural Research Council (ARC) and the Southdowns shopping centre.
Technicians have managed to restore power to some areas after they detected smoke at the substation, according to metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo.
“They managed to swiftly restore power supply to the larger part of Eco Park, which was affected. However, some of the substation’s supply areas are still affected by the blackout.”

He said the outage has affected around 2 000 residents, excluding businesses.
Mashigo blamed the outage on constant load-shedding currently being implemented by Eskom.
The substation’s breakdown comes days after the metro raised concerns over its infrastructure and electricity network.
“Load-shedding has a negative impact on our infrastructure and electricity network,” said Mashigo.
“The network was never designed to be continuously turned on and off like it is now.”
Repairs were continuing.
The metro urged residents to be patient as technicians work throughout the day in an attempt to restore power to the affected areas.
“The City apologises for the inconvenience caused. We would like to plead for patience during this unplanned interruption period. Residents will be kept abreast of developments.”
