Fill your calendar with these events in Pretoria in the coming weekends
Looking for some local activities to fill your weekend calendar? Check out the Singles running and cycling event, Vintage Décor Fair, Heritage Day celebrations, picnic at the zoo, album launches and African poetry and art coming up.
Spring is upon us — get out and about with these events:
Cycling and running singles, Saturday September 24

For all Pretoria’s singletons, this event is a must to meet other singletons with similar interests, or maybe just to find a running buddy. Hazeldean Valley Trails will host the event at Cowhouse near Silver Lakes.
Registration starts at 06:30 on Saturday with an after-party from 12:00 at Cowhouse, where you can enjoy craft beer from local brewing legends, Hazeldean Brewing Co., as well as delicious food and live entertainment.
The event is not for under-21s and non-singles will only be allowed to attend if they bring a single friend.
Vintage Décor show, Saturday September 24

For the market lovers, spend your heritage day browsing over 140 exhibitors at the Vintage Décor show at the CBC Old Boys Club in Groenkloof, in collaboration with My Thrift Fashion Fair. The fair will happen on September 24, from 08:30 to 16:00.
No entrance fee, pet-friendly, and over 140 exhibitors, showcasing South Africa’s best antiques, vintage items and collectables, with over 60 thrift exhibitors, the fair has something for everyone.
Heritage day with Makhadzi, Saturday September 24

Dress up in all white, with a touch of heritage attire, at the stunning Fountains Valley Resort for a Heritage Day celebration and braai. There will be live music and kids’ entertainment, with braai stands available to use. Picnic baskets and cooler boxes are allowed, and tickets are inexpensive at R150 per adult, R70 for kids and R80 for cooler boxes.
Friends @ Kimiad Bubbly Festival, Saturday September 24

Friends restaurant at the Kimiad Golf Estate in Moreletapark is hosting a bubbly, champagne and sparkling wine day at the Friend’s Bubbly Festival. The event starts at 10:00 until 16:00. Friends @ Kimiad is a family friendly restaurant that invites guests to enjoy good food and the company of friends and family in a relaxed and tranquil atmosphere. Tickets cost R150.

Pretoria Zoo Picnic, Sunday September 25

Put on your traditional or cultural attire, pack your picnic basket, braai stands, cooler box and camp chairs and bring your young ones to enjoy a picnic on the lawns at Pretoria Zoo. There will be fun for the whole family and dedicated kids activities. Booking for this event is essential.
Bad Peter Album launch, October 8

Bad Peter, local singer/songwriter duo, is launching their new album Home at Sowaar Bar in Menlyn. Their album launch will be on October 8, tickets essential. As a build-up to the event, Bad Peter will release a new single every week, that way fans can sing along at the event in October. Home is set for release on October 14.

The event starts at 19:00, with Lungelo Moyo opening, and at 20:00, Bad Peter will hit the stage to perform songs from Home, as well as some familiar hits.
Botaki ba Afrika, every Wednesday and Friday

Lovers of art, poetry literature and music cannot miss out on the talents of local artists every Wednesday and Friday. Located in Arcadia Street in Hatfield, the organisation hosts an open mic poetry session every Wednesday night from 18:00 to 21:00, and live music by local talents every Friday night from 18:00 to 21:00.
This Friday, Afrikan Highway with Ago will be performing, with the gallery open for Artifiedbeing, a solo exhibition by Mbusiwabo Maseko that will run until September 30. Botaki ba Afrika is a non-profit art organisation that aims to provide a platform and support structure for artists in disadvantaged areas.
