Cops bust Centurion man with 150 containers of allegedly stolen peanut butter

The arrest came after police received a tip-off about the man allegedly selling peanut butter from his shack at an informal settlement.

35-year-old Centurion man, who was arrested for allegedly stealing 150 containers of peanut butter, is expected to appear in the Atteridgeville magistrate’s court today.

The peanut butter was suspected to have been stolen in the Sunderland Ridge industrial area, according to police spokesperson Sergeant Tumisang Moloto.

The arrest was made thanks to a tip-off.

“Crime prevention unit officers were on patrol when they received information about the man selling Thokoman-branded peanut butter in the Mooiplaas informal settlement.”

At the shack, police discovered the 1kg peanut butter containers and arrested the man after he failed to give a satisfactory answer as to where the produce came from.

“He could not provide an invoice for the items. He was immediately arrested and detained at Erasmia SAPS,” said Moloto.

Further investigations revealed that the items were stolen from a company in Sunderland Ridge.

He said more arrests could not be ruled out.

Moloto urged Tshwane communities to consider their actions before buying or receiving stolen property as they will find themselves on the wrong side of the law.

He also pleaded with second-hand dealers to alert the police when they suspect that someone is trying to sell them possible stolen items.

“Police are warning the communities and business owners not to buy or receive stolen property as they will be held accountable if found in possession of the suspected stolen property,” said Moloto.
