Tshwane mayor promises to help Mams family rewire house
Tshwane mayor was conducting oversight visit to Mamelodi East to assess basic service delivery.
Tshwane metro mayor Randall Williams has promised a Mamelodi section SNS family whose home was destroyed in a fire a week ago, he will rewire their house.
Williams spoke to the Mabokela family during an oversight visit to monitor progress made in service delivery to Mamelodi East on Monday.
Tshwane mayoral spokesperson, Sipho Stuurman said the mayor was informed by a local councillor about the fire on September 12.
He said the mayor went to inspect the damage and expressed his sympathy and concerns about what happened.
“Obviously we are thankful nobody died.
“He promised to assist the family in terms of rewiring the house and that is a promise the mayor intends to keep,” said Stuurman.

It is believed the house caught alight after a grandmother left a candle she’d used during prayer unattended.
Everything inside the bedroom burned and wiring in the whole house was damaged.
Besides visiting the family the mayor was pleased to note progress in maintenance work in the area, such as cleaning of storm water systems, road markings and the patching of potholes.
“Our teams are particularly accelerating the City’s drive to fix potholes with the Jetpatcher machine,” said Williams.
“We want to drastically reduce the City’s pothole patching backlog.
“Another key area of basic service delivery is the maintenance of our streetlights. Considering continued higher levels of load-shedding, it is important that our streetlights function properly by ensuring that they are switched off during the day to conserve energy.”
Williams added that the maintenance work of public spaces, such as parks and specifically Rethabile sports ground and Mamelodi East public swimming pool continued.
The metro has done extensive repairs on the ground, such as fencing and installing soccer goal posts, netball posts, basketball posts and new gates.
“We are now building ablution facilities and we have further ensured that there is security to protect the facility.”
The mayor also planted trees.
“Oversight visits form a key part of our work. It is important that we have our eyes and ears on the ground to better respond to the needs of our residents,” he concluded.
