A 60-year-old man was airlifted to hospital after suffering critical injuries in a motorcycle crash this morning on the N1 North in Pretoria East.

It is reported that the man was riding a superbike during the early hours of the morning when the collision occurred near the Rigel off-ramp.

Emer-G-Med operations manager, Kyle van Reenen, confirmed that paramedics arrived on the scene at about 08:00 this morning to assist the injured man.

“On arrival on the scene, a male motorcyclist aged approximately 60 was found lying in the centre median with critical injuries,” said van Reenen.

The biker reportedly struck some debris on the road while riding, resulting in him losing control of the bike and crashing. Fortunately, no other vehicle/person(s) were involved or injured in the crash.

After being treated on scene, the man was airlifted to a nearby facility for further treatment.

“Advanced Life Support paramedics worked fervently to stabilise him before a decision was made to airlift him through to a specialist facility with the assistance of the Netcare911 aeromedical helicopter,” continued van Reenen.

The biker is said to still be in critical condition and doctors are working tirelessly to tend to his injuries.

Further investigations are underway to finalise the exact factors that led to the crash.
