Man critical after multi-vehicle crash outside Pretoria west tunnel

“The patient had a severe head injury and an arm fracture and was flown to hospital by Halo services,” a paramedic said.

A man sustained severe head injuries and had to be airlifted to hospital after a multi-vehicle crash outside the Daspoort tunnel in the west of Pretoria on Saturday.

BestCare ambulance services spokesperson Margot van Rooyen said the man was in a critical condition and was airlifted to a hospital.

“The patient had a severe head injury and an arm fracture and was flown to hospital by Halo services.”

Van Rooyen said three cars were involved in the accident that happened just outside the tunnel around 08:30.

“One family that was involved in the multi-vehicle accident was transported to hospital.

“They were all stable and did not sustain serious injuries.”

She said several people sustained injuries and were assisted by different ambulances.

“Other people that were involved were transported by other ambulance services but the male driver was the only one airlifted due to his serious injuries.”
