Two die in R55 collision, one airlifted to hospital
Two occupants of the minibus suffered fatal injuries. A female passenger was airlifted to a specialist facility for further care.
Two people have died in a collision between a minibus taxi and a truck on the R55 road in Centurion.
“Two occupants of the minibus suffered fatal injuries and were declared dead on the arrival of paramedics on Sunday,” a statement by paramedic responders read.
Five critically injured passengers were treated on the scene before being transported to nearby hospitals.
“Five commuters from the taxi sustained critical injuries and were treated and stabilised on the scene by emergency care practitioners before being taken by ambulances to nearby hospitals for further care. A female passenger was airlifted to a specialist facility for further definitive care.
“At approximately 19:30 on Sunday, Emer-G-Med paramedics responded to the scene of a collision involving a minibus taxi on the R55 in Centurion.”
Earlier this year a woman died, and several others were critically injured in a collision on the R55 road.
At the time it was said that the occupants of the light delivery vehicle were ejected from the vehicle.
“A woman, about 40 years of age, sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased on the scene by paramedics.
“Sixteen other people suffered injuries ranging from serious to critical and the assistance of the Halo aeromedical helicopter was called in and a person was airlifted to a nearby hospital for immediate care.
“The remaining persons were transported by various private ambulance services to nearby hospitals.”
