Welfare organisation treats residents to a concert

The Kungwini Welfare Organisation treated its residents to a surprise visit by Afrikaans pop Singer and presenter Nadine who entertained the audience.

The organisation held a wellness day, combined with a fundraising day in an effort to entertain its residents and at the same time raise funds for the center.

Chief Executive Officer, Darleen Botes, told the Rekord that the event was important to the center, as it would give donors an idea of what the organisation was all about.

It was also an opportunity for them to showcase the newly built offices which were donated by various business people.

“For the organisation it was just an amazing opportunity that can expand our service, and give a better quality of service to our community.

“Social work service is a big part of our daily operations,” Botes said.

She added that the newly built office will not only be beneficial to the center but would benefit the entire community in the area.

“We receive 55 percent of our income in the form of a subsidy from the government but we still have to go and raise the remaining 45 percent on our own. It is very difficult to get it, especially since the covid 19 pandemic hit us, which made things difficult.”

The AE Switch CEO Tiaan Lombard, one of the donors at the center, said the reason he got involved with the Kungwini Organisation was because of how well the center was being managed.

“Here you can see every cent count, you can see the efforts that go into it. For me to contribute is obviously a privilege. I got involved with Kungwini recently but I have done projects with Darleen before,” Lombard added.

Hoffeldt said the event served as a reminder of how blessed she was, which should not be taken for granted.

“We are not only here to receive nor to accept, we are here to serve. Being here today reminds me once again that God gives us the opportunity to make a difference and I hope that is what we have done today. I will definitely come back to support the Christmas market,” she concluded.

Kungwini is a residential care service that houses 160 disabled people and provides 24-hour residential care. The facility also offers therapy for residents who are frail because of their disability.
