Tshwane warns of severe thunderstorms

The storms are expected to end just before 16:00.

Warnings of severe thunderstorms were issued on Tuesday morning as Pretoria experienced heavy early morning rainfall.

The Tshwane metro put out a warning of severe thunderstorms that were expected to last until 16:00 on Tuesday.

Reports by the SA weather service reiterated this.

The service expected partly cloudy and clear skies later into the afternoon.

The following is expected to be the impacts of Tuesday’s storms:
– flooding of roads and low-lying bridges.
– travel disruptions due to poor driving visibility or road obstructions.
– flooding of informal settlements and damage or loss of infrastructure.

To keep residents safe during the storm, the metro has put out the following instructions:
– if possible stay indoors and off the roads.
– avoid crossing rivers and swollen streams where water is above your ankle.
– if trapped in your vehicle in a pool of water, abandon it and climb to higher ground.
– if caught in a flood inside a building, move valuables to a safe place above expected flood levels.
– do not seek shelter under trees or tall objects.
– do not go fishing or play golf as golf clubs and fishing rods are good conductors of electricity.
