Level 2 rain warning for Tshwane ahead of rainy weekend

Weather conditions will remain cold and wet this weekend.

A level 2 warning for disruptive rain over Pretoria has been issued by the South African Weather Service (SAWS) on November 11.

Some parts of central South Africa have received a level 6 warning.

A level 2 warning is given to weather conditions with a high likelihood but with a minor impact. A level 6 warning is a high likelihood, with a significant impact.

Weather conditions will remain cold and wet this weekend. Maximum temperatures for Saturday will reach a high of 21, with showers and thundershowers predicted throughout the day.

Sunday will be slightly warmer, with maximum temperature of 24, with moderate rain in the morning, escalating to showers and thundershowers by the afternoon.

Weather conditions are expected to clear up slightly overnight, for cloudy conditions on Monday morning. Monday will have a high of 25 and is expected to develop into showers and thundershowers.

On November 11, Tshwane mayor Randall Williams issued a statement warning Pretoria residents that unlawful invasion of flood plains, illegal dumping and blocking of stormwater channels would increase risks associated with flooding.

The mayor asked residents to report any blocked drains or other flood risk observations to pothole@tshwane.gov.za.

He said that the Tshwane EMS department would be on high alert, and he reminded residents to contact their toll-free line at 107.
