Foreign national found in possession of drugs released on bail

Upon searching the vehicle and its occupants, crystal meth and Rohypnol was found in possession of one of the occupants.

A Pakistani foreign national is expected to appear at the Atteridgeville magistrate’s court on November 16 after he was released on bail on Wednesday.

The man was found to be in possession of drugs during a police patrol along the R55 just outside Laudium.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Simon Chokoe said police were doing their daily patrol when they spotted a suspicious bakkie on the R55.

“Our officers were patrolling when they stopped a white Toyota Hilux driving recklessly. Upon searching the vehicle and its occupants, crystal meth and Rohypnol was found in possession of one of the occupants,” Chokoe said.

“The five other occupants tried to stop the police from arresting the 29-year-old suspect.”

The officers had to call in backup and ended up arresting all six foreign nationals.

The incident took place just before a joint operation between the SAPS and the Department of Home Affairs which resulted in the arrest of 24 illegal foreigners.

The operation was held on the R55 near the Zwartkop race track in Centurion just outside Laudium.
