Man dies after being electrocuted at Kolonnade mall

The store remained closed for the remainder of the day whilst SAPS conducted investigations.

A contractor electrician died after being electrocuted at the Kolonnade mall in Montana yesterday afternoon.

Pro Med Emergency Services attended to the scene at around 15:15.

Upon arrival, paramedics found that a contractor electrician was electrocuted with what is believed to be a three-phase electrical circuit in the roof of a clothing store.

“When the paramedics gained access to the roof, they found that first responders were already busy with CPR when paramedics took over and started with advanced life support interventions,” said Pro Med spokesperson Michael Gough.

“The patient was extracted from the confined space with the assistance of specialised equipment from GPG’s rescue unit and Tshwane’s fire and rescue services.

“Unfortunately, the patient was declared dead on the scene despite full resuscitation efforts and the extent of the injuries.”

The store remained closed for the rest of the day whilst police investigated.
