Crashes between N1 and N4 cause traffic delays

Collisions are said to have caused major traffic delays, and motorists are advised to use alternative routes.

Motorists can expect delays between the N1 and N4 as a result of accidents on Sunday.

The latest occurred around 10:00 on Sunday when Emer-G-Med paramedics responded to a collision involving a truck on the N1 South before Lynwood.

The truck is reported to have rear-ended the vehicle of a young woman.

“We can confirm that paramedics transported a female in her 20s with moderate injuries to a nearby medical facility for further treatment,” said spokesperson Kyle van Reenen.

The collision is said to have caused major traffic delays, and motorists are advised to use alternative routes.

Earlier on Sunday morning, Emer-G-Med paramedics responded to a crash on N1 near the N4 interchange in Hatfield involving a minibus.

The minibus is said to have rolled several times, resulting in a 30-year-old man’s death.

“Injured commuters were found clambering to safety, and an on-scene triage area was immediately established by incident commanders, while the Emer-G-Med Emergency Operations Centre dispatched additional resources to the scene,” said spokesperson Kyle van Reenen.

Sixteen (16) injured commuters were stabilised and treated on-scene before being transported by ambulances to nearby medical facilities for further treatment. The injuries sustained by the commuters range from minor to moderate.

No other vehicles were involved in either accident, and investigations are currently ongoing to determine the cause(s) of both.
