Laudium police arrest suspect in connection with stolen property, bribery
A 30-year-old suspect is to appear in the Atteridgeville magistrates court.
Laudium police have arrested a 30-year-old man for possession of stolen property and bribing a police officer.
Police spokesperson Simon Chokoe said the arrest resulted from a police special operation in the area.
“SAPS officers were holding a stop-and-search around Laudium when they spotted a suspicious man carrying a black bag. Police then proceeded to search him and they found eight cellphones that the man could not account for,” Chokoe said.
He said the operation was a continuation of the stop-and-search campaigns implemented during the festive season.
“This is our way of making the community feel safe and also keeping up visibility in the area.”
The man is expected to appear at the Atteridgeville magistrate’s court soon.
Station commander Lieutenant-Colonel David Sithole applauded his team for its work in rooting out crime in Laudium.
“I will also like to urge members of the community to work with the police and report any sort of crime without any fear,” said Sithole.
The station’s crime prevention and communications division embarked on an anti-bullying campaign at Andrew Anthony and Laudium primary schools.
Learners were taught the importance of respecting one another and also taking care of each other’s mental health.
“Schools have been the main centre of bullying, and as parents and members of the police, we can’t let such tendencies continue.”
Bullying has been gaining traction recently, especially in schools.
Learners were further warned to be extra vigilant, especially when crossing the roads in the morning and afternoon.
