Soshanguve SOS principal receives special award
Amos Tladi Mashiane led Soshanguve Automotive SOS in different competitions through 2022 making headlines along the way.
A Soshanguve award-winning principal has accredited the Gauteng department of education (GCE), parents and his learners for his recent accolade.
Soshanguve Automotive SOS principal Amos Tladi Mashiane was recently honoured with the Harry Gwala award by GDE MEC Matome Chiloane for his school’s outstanding performance in different competitions locally and globally.
Mashiane’s school is known for its invention of a solar locomotive, a railway line and a wireless electric car charger among other things.
The multiple award-winning school principal received his honours in front of parents, fellow principals, learners and the community of Soshanguve during the class of 2022 matric results announcement at Soshanguve East secondary school.
He said he was humbled by the gesture shown to him by the department.
“I feel honoured and thankful for this. The Harry Gwala award is one of the biggest awards you will ever receive because those are from the pioneers who lived before us setting those examples,” he said.

Mashiane said the support of the department, parents, managers and his learners was the reason he received the award.
“Without their support, I would be stressed and not able to do what I want to do,” he said.
A week ago, Mashiane was in Dubai to meet with the executives of World Clean Tech.
This was after the solar locomotive was identified as a project that speaks loudest about the use of renewable energy in the railway industry to deal with climate change.
“We were awarded the world tech award under the category of student solar stars. This says to us that now we can utilise their camp to tap into the business of the whole world,” he said.
He said the school’s success shows that something great can come out of a township school if it has the right leadership and direction.
“I believe that there’s no dustbin for human beings. Everyone has a specific talent and all they need is a great leader who’s supportive and can lead them in the right direction,” he said.
He said he was amazed by what his learners were capable of when exposed to innovation.
