Weather Update | A hot weekend to close the month before cooler rainy conditions next week

The SA weather service said that hot weather is expected to persist into the weekend, but the new week will bring with it rain and more comfortable temperatures.

There is an end in sight for the hot weather that has been sweeping through the country, but only after one last hot weekend, according to the South African weather service (Saws).

Forecaster Lehlohonolo Thobela told Rekord that warm conditions will persist in Pretoria next week, but moderate to high chances of scattered showers and thundershowers would break the heatwave in parts of Gauteng.

Thobela said that although the bulk of the rain would be concentrated in the south and central Gauteng, it would move north and east reaching Pretoria by Tuesday.

Friday is expected to be hot with highs of 34° C in Pretoria, with a slight chance of showers and thundershowers in the afternoon and evening.

The weekend is expected to bring more heat with highs of 36° C on Saturday and Sunday. Both days will see a slight chance of late showers and thundershowers.

The new week will bring a moderate 60% chance of rain throughout the day on Monday and cooler temperatures with highs of 32°C.

Tuesday will still be cooler with 28° C, with a slight chance of larger amounts of rain in the afternoon and evening.

Wednesday is expected to reach a high of 27° C, with a high 80% chance of moderate amounts of rain throughout the day.

The weather service has also noted that the sunburn index for the weekend would be “extreme”. People are advised to wear sunblock and protective clothing, and to avoid unnecessary sun exposure between 11:00 and 15:00.
