Lyttelton reservoir scheduled for maintenance

We will avoid water interruptions, Mashigo

Centurion residents can expect a possible scheduled water interruption on Tuesday, the Tshwane metro said.

Spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said that the planned maintenance may not necessarily result in an interruption but should there be one, the municipality would make an alternative plan to supply the residents with water.

“The City of Tshwane will on Tuesday, January 31 conduct scheduled upgrades to the water supply network at the Clifton reservoir. This essential work will take nine hours to complete, from 08:00 until 17:00.”

Mashigo, however, assured residents that the metro will try to avoid an interruption as much as possible as the water was a basic human right need.

Recently the municipality warned its residents to use water sparingly after supplier Rand Water threatened to reduce water flow to stage 2.

MMC Daryl Johnston said residents must note that Rand Water had restricted water flow to reservoirs in the municipality to 30%.

Johnston’s however, said the situation was not all gloom and doom as he was encouraged by the resident’s commitment to using water sparingly.

The MMC urged residents to continue using water sparingly regardless of the heatwave the country faced.

Last Friday, Rand Water notified the metro of its plan to reduce the flow of water to the municipality.

The utility issued a statement cautioning the metro about the increase in water consumption, which affected the level of water reservoirs were able to hold.

Tshwane said the areas likely to be affected were:

– Die Hoewes (all extensions)

– Highlands 359-JR

– Kloofzicht

– Lyttelton 381-JR

– Lyttelton AH (all extensions)

– Lyttelton Manor (all extensions)

– Zwartkop 356-JR
