Police open inquest into woman’s cause of death

“They found her body in the river with a gunshot wound to the head. A pistol was found not far from her body.”

Police have confirmed that an inquest into the exact cause of Landi Prinsloo’s death has been opened after her body was recovered on Friday.

Prinsloo, who was last seen in Kameeldrift Road, northeast of Pretoria at 08:15 on Thursday, was found deceased this past Friday morning.

Police spokesperson Warrant-officer Johan van Dyk said Prinsloo’s body was recovered in the Pienaars river on Friday.

“Police searched in the vicinity of her vehicle and in the river,” said Van Dyk.

“They found her body in the river with a gunshot wound to the head. A pistol was found not far from her body.”

Landi’s car, a white Toyota Prado, was recovered on Moloto Road late on Thursday.

Her handbag was found inside but neither Landi nor her cellphone was located at that stage.

Her husband Jann said the Roodeplaat K9 unit recovered her phone and items of clothing next to the river nearby.
