Animal shelter rescues two dogs from horrible conditions
The second rescue was in Ekangala where community members threw boiling water over a dog named Billy who they believed was aggressive.
The Wet Nose Animal Rescue Centre, a local animal shelter, recently rescued two dogs from horrible conditions.
The first animal to be rescued was a three-year-old pit bull named Dexter, according to Wetnose MD Debbie Buys.
His rescue came after an anonymous tip-off when concerns were raised about his plight on a property in Silverton.
Dexter showed signs of abuse as he was afraid of people too.
Staff at the centre gave him food and got him up to date with his vaccinations.
“Once we gained his trust, he turned out to be well-behaved and listened attentively to our commands,” said Buys.
The second rescue was in Ekangala where community members threw boiling water over a dog named Billy who they believed was aggressive.
The owner of the dog surrendered Billy to the centre so that he could receive proper medical attention for his wounds after realising that the centre would be able to provide better living conditions for the dog.
“As much as the owner tried to provide the animal with the best care and nutrition, he did not always have enough resources to provide. This resulted in Billy roaming around in the community,” said Buys.
“Upon arrival, our inspector was prepared to meet a dog who might be less than happy to see her.
“Instead, she found a friendly, goofy youngster, yearning for nothing more than love and affection. So she decided to take Billy from this very dangerous environment and find him a new kingdom to rule over.”
Billy was healing well, but he will have to stay in the hospital for a while because of his injuries.
“He needs food, blankets, medical care and, most importantly, a new home.”
Wet Nose said that to continue helping abandoned, abused or neglected animals, it needs the public’s help.
To do this, it needs donations of food and blankets as well as help in covering the medical costs for the animals they take in.
