NG Kerk boosts local business people

“I came all the way from Mamelodi. I saw the add on Facebook, then I decided to take my wife to get cheaper household things.”

Churches are the heart and soul of the communities, it is imperative that they uplift the communities surrounding them, Reverend Derick du Toit said.

Du Toit said this on Saturday on the sidelines of a market at the NG church Villaria in Pretoria.

“We actually held a market in December, but some of our church mates decided to have another one now to uplift the community.

“All these people you see here only paid for space otherwise everything they make out of this market goes directly to their pockets,” said the reverend.

He said it was a nice sight to see everyone come together in an effort to uplift and support their own.

Lindie Zerwick, one of the congregants at the church, said she came to support her mother as she was one of the people who had a stand.

“Well I am here to support my mother and church, as I am a member. I am also here to have a good time and mingle with people,” Zerwick said.

Jabulani Mahlangu from Mamelodi, came with his wife. He said such a place was the best market to get things.

The event was packed with family members and friends who came to purchase good items, and have a great conversation over a warm meal.

“We are currently not here to buy anything, but just to check what’s been sold at the market, so that next market when we buy we will be able to know what it is that we want,” said the couple.
