322 arrested in Tshwane

“One person was arrested for illicit cigarettes, leading to the confiscation of 28 cartons of cigarettes, 85 cigarette packets and 3 340 loose cigarettes.”

A total of 322 people were arrested during a recent operation by law enforcement agencies in Tshwane this week.

“The operation included high visibility patrols in crime hotspots, compliance inspections, and raids on illegal liquor outlets,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk.

It was a partnership between the home affairs and labour departments, the Gauteng traffic department, the Tshwane metro police, crime prevention wardens and other stakeholders.

Additional members from different SAPS stations and units in the Tshwane policing area also took part in the operation.

Arrests included 80 persons for gender-based violence, six charged with murder, six involved in armed robbery, nine for rape, and six linked to armed robbery cases.

Five liquor premises, all of which were subsequently closed for violating the liquor act, were inspected.

Two suspects were arrested for being in possession of drugs with 12 ziplock plastic bags containing dagga and seven plastic wrappings containing Nyaope, which was also confiscated.

“One person was arrested for illicit cigarettes, leading to the confiscation of 28 cartons of cigarettes, 85 cigarette packets and 3 340 loose cigarettes.

“One person was arrested for drunkenness, and another for drinking in public.”

According to Van Dyk, traffic infringement notices that amounted to R7 100 in total were issued.

Furthermore, 57 undocumented immigrants were detained and 140 Aarto fines amounting to R118 500 were issued during a roadblock.

“In total, 1 371 individuals and 432 vehicles were searched.”
