Public can now comment on human settlement plan
The venues and dates of these engagement sessions will be communicated in due course.
The metro has recently announced that it intends to hold community engagement sessions regarding the municipal sustainable human settlement plan (MSHSP).
MMC for Human Settlements, Ofentse Madzebatela says that this comes after the metro commenced with the review of the 2015 plan.
“The aim of the review of the MSHSP is to provide a strategic response from the city to address the challenges presented by rapid urban growth and spatial inequality,” Madzebatela said.
“At its centre is the provision and facilitation of sustainable human settlements for residents across the municipal area,” Madzebatela continued.
The review of the 2015 plan is said to provide insight into the metro’s five-year plan regarding the human settlements agenda, metropolitan spatial development framework and the integrated development plan (IDP).
The MMC stated that by highlighting human settlement investment initiatives and infrastructure, the MSHSP supports the metro’s IDP.
The metro said that one of the main objectives of the MSHSP is to draw broad boundaries around the Tshwane housing system.
“We want to provide direction on the human settlement development of the City through the identification of needs, challenges, areas of opportunity, and understanding available resources for sustainable use,” Madzebatela said.
The metro intends to take the community engagement sessions to all seven Tshwane residents to ensure residents have their say on the development plan.
The venues and dates of these engagement sessions will be communicated in due course.
“As MMC for human settlements, I would like to urge all communities to fully participate in these upcoming public engagement sessions including consultations with all relevant stakeholders,” he concluded.
