Bonatical Garden Parkrun celebrated 300

The Parkrun is free. It's all about fun. They have over 200 Parkruns around South Africa and more than 2000 internationally.

Pretoria residents came in their numbers to celebrate 300 weekly Parkruns at the Botanical Garden Parkrun on Saturday.

 The 5km fun run/walk was held at the Botanical Gardens and it was all about fun, keeping fit and supporting the Blissfull Cleft foundation.

 Co-event director from the Parkrun, Gerrit Engelbrecht, said the reason they were wearing purple shirts was to show love and give support around the world and the Blissful Cleft Foundation.

The gates opened at 07:00 and the fun run/walk started at 08:30.

He said the Parkrun was free. It was all about fun. They have over 200 Parkruns around South Africa and more than 2000 internationally.

“Every week it is celebrated is more about fun and running through the beautiful surrounds of the Botanical Gardens.

Ilana Wait, one of the founders, said the Botanic Garden run started in 2014.

She said it had been wonderful to see the Parkrun growing.

“The Parkrun is a free, fun, and friendly weekly 5k community event. Walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate – it’s up to you,” said Wait.

Engelbrecht added that volunteers organise free, weekly, 5km timed runs around the world at over 2000 events which are open to everyone, safe and easy to partake in.

The participants celebrated the day by having cake.

All the events of the Parkrun take place in beautiful locations, from nature reserves to parks, racetracks to farms.
