East councillor ensures resolution of residents’ billing errors

Previously residents were up in arms due to overbilling due to faulty meters.

Pretoria east ward 101 councillor Malcolm de Klerk has recently embarked on a process of sorting out his community’s billing error issues.

This was after several residents complained about billing, according to De Klerk.

Previously residents were up in arms due to overbilling due to faulty meters.

Resident Marc Morris, who was assisted by the De Klerk, said Tshwane’s electric meter readings were incorrectly recorded and it resulted in him being charged incorrectly, usually too much.

“After numerous emails to Tshwane to request corrections, I contacted the ward councillor, he got involved and Tshwane electricity then corrected my meter readings,” he added.

De Klerk said he has been resolving meter complaints in the past two years, since he has been in office.

“Some of these particular issues have been dragging on for six years.

“Once the system error is under investigation and if all goes well, residents receive a credit to use against usage for the following months ahead,” he said.

Another resident, Riaan Botha, said the metro kept billing his electricity after it was already on prepaid for months. He contacted De Klerk and he solved it “within hours”.

De Klerk urged residents in his ward to report their billing issues to malcomdk@tshwane.gov.za
