Man arrested for attempting to bribe police in north with R400

The man aimed to free his worker only to get arrested as well.

The Tshwane Flying Squad arrested a 29-year-old man for attempting to bribe a police officer with R400.

The money was meant for the release of the man’s employee, who was caught with 34 ziplock packets of marijuana.

Tshwane Flying Squad spokesperson Sergeant Alfred Legodi said the suspect’s worker was arrested following a tip-off.

“The 21-year-old suspect was found at a local pub in possession of the marijuana.”

He was arrested and then transported to the Hammanskraal police station.

THE BRIBE

Legodi said 40 minutes after arrest, the man followed the police to the station seeking to free his worker.

“He had the nerve to drive to the police station and bribe an officer to free his worker.”

He was arrested for bribing an officer of the law and detained at the Hammanskraal police station.

Legodi said the duo are set to appear in court soon.

“The 21-year-old suspect will appear facing charges of illegal dealing in dagga and possession, while the 29-year-old man will face charges of dealing as well as bribery.

Legodi urged the public to come forward with any information that will lead to the arrest of perpetrators.
