The Tshwane flying squad warned of the prevalence of bakkie theft.

Three bakkies, estimated to be worth more than R1-million, were found by the Tshwane flying squad in the north of Pretoria over the weekend.

Flying squad spokesperson Sergeant Alfred Legodi also warned residents about the prevalence of bakkie theft.

The first bakkie to be recovered was a grey Toyota Hilux bakkie with a price estimated at around R800 000.

It was found at block XX next to Thornhill complex in Soshanguve.

“The vehicle was stolen at Brooklyn,” said Legodi.

The second vehicle, which was stolen in Wonderboompoort, was recovered in Soshanguve.

The white Mahindra bakkie has an estimated value of R100 000.

The white Mahindra bakkie recovered fitted with false number plates.

No suspects were arrested.

“The suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot,” Legodi said.

They also fitted the bakkie with false number plates.

“Police will examine whether the car was used in commissioning a crime as it was fitted with fake plates,” he said.

Legodi encouraged people to install tracking devices in their vehicles.

“A tracking system played a role in tracing a white Nissan NP300 to Makgato in Winterveldt.”

The car was reported stolen in Pretoria North.

Legodi said the bakkie was valued at around R150 000.

All three vehicles were impounded at the Pretoria West police pound.

He urged motorists to be cautious, especially when leaving their vehicles unattended or driving at night.

Residents who have any information relating to these cases can contact the flying squad at 012 841 0048 or 08600 10111.
