Laudium CPF seize drugs and stolen cables during patrols
“We found a significant number of stolen cables, along with a large quantity of items that we suspect may have been stolen from the community.”
The Laudium CPF discovered illegally erected shacks behind the Cuprene Street reservoir during a patrol on Sunday.
They were joined by councillors Naeem Patel and Shakeel Bhaktawer, police and private security companies PAJ Security, Pro-Active Security, Monitor Net and Khan’s Tactical.
CPF spokesperson Shaheen Wahab said when they arrived, the inhabitants fled the scene, leaving behind evidence of their illegal activities.
“We found a significant number of stolen cables, along with a large number of items that we suspect may have been stolen from the community,” he said.
He said they found very large quantities of food that the community may have unknowingly provided to these individuals.

During another patrol on Friday, the CPF successfully seized a significant quantity of drugs at identified hotspots.
“Over the past few months, our patrols have uncovered a troubling trend of illegal occupation of council premises, which have unfortunately become hotspots for drug-related activities and other unlawful substances.”
Wahab said on Friday, they encountered a suspect in possession of drugs at the tennis court.
In the same room, they discovered a couple sleeping, who claimed to be from Mosselbay, visiting Pretoria to consult with an attorney in the city centre.
“We were astonished by their long journey and their decision to rest at the tennis courts.

They found one man sleeping in the next room.
“Consequently, we asked the four individuals to find alternative accommodation,” Wahab added.
The CPF received numerous complaints from residents regarding cable theft on 15th Avenue, the street where the tennis courts are located.
Wahab said this does not only pose a threat to community safety but also impacts critical infrastructure.
“To gather community feedback on these recent incidents and determine the appropriate course of action regarding beggars and vagrants, we will be conducting a survey.”
The CPF encouraged community members to share their views.
“It is crucial that they work together to clean up Laudium and ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.
“We deeply appreciate the ongoing support of our community, and we encourage anyone with information or concerns to reach out to the Laudium CPF or the councillor’s office.
“Let us unite in creating a safer and more harmonious Laudium for everyone.”
