Local organisations collaborate to host an anti-drug campaign

The aim of the event was to dissect the issues of substance abuse and also to come up with solutions to assist those who are affected by it.

Various stakeholders recently held an anti-drug/end-of-youth month event at Manhattan hotel in the CBD attended by around 100 participants.

The aim of the event was to dissect the issues of substance abuse and also come up with solutions to assist those who are affected by it.

Some of the stakeholders involved in the effort included the Department of Employment and Labour, Central SAPS, Alcohol Anonymous South Africa (AASA), Stabilis Treatment Centre, Intercessor Army Franchising, Old Mutual and Human Resource Development and Training (HRD&T).

“This forms part of the awareness and outreach programmes that seek to better our society and create cohesion between police and the society at large,” says police spokesperson, Constable Thabang Nkhumise.

“A team consisting of the combination office and event coordination at Pretoria Central SAPS took to the podium to educate, present and engage with the guests. Together we can break the cycle and minimise crime,” Nkhumise continued.

Organiser Warrant-Officer Poortman said: “It is very vital for the community to stand with the police so that we can fight lawlessness in the country.”

A number of pamphlets were handed out to the 100 participants who were present containing useful information regarding substance abuse.

The community members are urged to report drug trading and dealing.

“They can do it anonymously so by dialling our SAPS hotline on 08600 10111 or 112 on their cellphones. All stations have suggestion boxes and the community are advised to utilise them,” said Nkhumise.
