Tshwane emergency services responded to a report about a generator on fire at the University of Pretoria’s campus in Lynnwood, Hatfield on Wednesday
According to service spokesperson, Charles Mabaso, the call came at approximately 08:42.
“It was reported that a standby generator exploded and caught fire at the economic and management science’s side of campus at the University of Pretoria,” Mabaso said.
“A fire engine and a ladder truck were immediately dispatched to the incident. Firefighters arrived on the scene to find one of two generators on fire and immediately began firefighting operations,” Mabaso continued.
“As it stands they are no students/staff members that suffered any injury, and the fire is said to have done no structural damage to nearby buildings.
“The cause of the explosion and fire has not yet been determined. The impact of the loss of one of the generators has not yet been communicated by university authorities.”
Rekord has since sent an inquiry to the University of Pretoria and is currently awaiting for a response.
