Possible water shortages in Menlo Park on Wednesday

Residents from Brooklyn, Groenkloof, Menlo Park, Nieuw Muckleneuk and Waterkloof areas must brace themselves against possible water outages on Wednesday due to upgrades to the service network.

Residents of Menlo Park and surroundings must brace themselves for water supply outages due to upgrades to the local water network.

Tshwane metro announced that it had scheduled upgrades to the local water supply network for July 12.

“The upgrades are anticipated to last for 12 hours (from 08:00 until 20:00) in the Waterkloof reservoir supply area,” said spokesperson Lindela Mashigo.

Although an interruption of water supply will be avoided at all costs, it may occur in the following areas:

– Brooklyn
– Groenkloof
– Menlo Park
– Nieuw Muckleneuk
– Waterkloof

Mashigo urged residents to use water sparingly during this period.

Residents should follow these water conservation measures:

– Do not irrigate or water gardens using hosepipes or sprinkler systems between 06:00 and 18:00.

– Residents should not wash vehicles with hosepipes.

– Residents should not fill swimming pools.

– Install a low-flow shower head and water aerators where possible.

– Use a dual-flush toilet cistern.

-Plant indigenous or drought-resistant shrubs in the garden.

– Use a broom instead of a hosepipe when cleaning driveways or patios.

– Collect rainwater to reuse in the garden or washing vehicles.

– Cover swimming pools to avoid water evaporation.

– Take a shower rather than a bath.

– Close a running tap when brushing teeth or shaving.

– Regularly check toilets and taps for leaks.

Mashigo also urged residents to keep using grey water for gardens or to flush toilets.

Residents should report water leaks, burst pipes and all incidents related to water wastage on 080 1111 556.
