Pta NGO, community raise R300 000 to help Limpopo family to rebuild after fire
The project wanted to raise R150 000, but word quickly spread and the mayor of Polokwane donated R120 000 while relatives, churches and community members raised another R80 000.
A Pretoria NGO and concerned community members managed to raise R300 000 to help a family whose house burnt down in Seshego this past weekend.
“For starters, our 56 staff members contributed R150 each towards the family,” said Motome Rapestoa Foundation spokesperson Darren Ru van Rensberg.
This was after the Ndini family lost their home in a fire that was suspected to have resulted from an electrical fault.
“After that, our founder decided to start a project titled ‘Doing our part’ with the Ndini family only being the first of many beneficiaries.”
Van Rensburg said the foundation helped out because it was part of the core element of what the organisation is about.

The Rapetsoa Matome Foundation managed to raise an additional R100 000.
“I am lost for words,” said Ndini family member Ouma Hlahla.
“We didn’t expect such a huge response from the community.
“I am so overwhelmed and thankful. Not just for the money but the moral support and love from everyone involved.
“We lost everything, but everyone came to help. We were surprised that so many people were there for our family in our time of need. People donated blankets, food, clothes, toiletries and prayers.”
She thanked everyone who helped.
“Thank you so much! We are grateful to our neighbours, friends, family, colleagues. This project showed that we are part of a beautiful community.”
“After the fundraising for the Ndinis, we are planning on doing more outreaching through the foundation,” said Van Rensburg.
