Ward 59 residents embark on a cleaning campaign on a busy R21
“I noticed the terrible mess the other day and It can only say a big thank you”.
Tshwane Resident George Zietsman spearheaded a cleaning campaign on the interchange to Brooklyn on the R21 on Saturday.
This after many commuters who use the route daily complained about the rubbish that was being dumped by the roadside.
One of the road users, Sabdra Kachelhoffer, was over the moon about the progress made by Zietsman and company in making sure the roadside was pleasing.
“I noticed the terrible mess the other day and I can only say a big thank you,” Kachelhoffer said.
Keith Afrique said he was also thinking of mobilising residents to do a clean-up campaign of the route.
“I recently moved to Muckleneuk and I have to use this route. I have been contemplating heading up a clean-up of this appalling state and ashamedly I did not,” exclaimed Afrique.
One resident took a swipe at the municipality’s lack of paying attention to such dirt that was by the roadside.
Ettienne Barclay accused the municipality of failing residents despite them continuing to pay for services.
“Once again a municipality can’t do the job its residents are you paying for in hard-earned cash. The City of Tshwane must really get its act together,” Barclay said.
The ward councillor in the area couldn’t hold back his happiness, saying it was fulfilling to represent a community that was also making sure the environment they were residing in was well taken care of.
Shaun Wilkinson thanked residents who took their time in making sure that the cleaning campaign was a success, particularly Zietsman who headed the campaign.
“Thank you George Zietsman for the cleaning of the roadside rubbish, trees and bushes at the bottom of Unisa, and at the public road to and from the interchange to Brooklyn on the R21.
“Lots of rubbish was collected, and the trees and bushes that were overgrown and protruding into the roads were removed,” Wilkinson said.
He continued to applaud Zietsman’s efforts and that of his team, saying their work had greatly improved what he termed an “eyesore” at one of the major entrances and exits of Ward 59.
