Cold front in Tshwane expected to lift Tuesday

"On Wednesday, temperatures are expected to rise and the rest of the week will be mostly sunny."

Pretorians will continue to experience cold weather conditions on Tuesday, as they were hit by a cold front over the weekend into Monday.

However, on Tuesday, temperatures are slightly better than with a bit more sunshine today onwards.

South African weather service forecaster Valencia Phakula told Rekord that the skies will start to clear from Tuesday throughout the rest of the week.

“On Wednesday, temperatures are expected to rise from 5°C to 18°C. The rest of the week will be mostly sunny,” Phakula said.

On Sunday, the service announced a cold front in Gauteng and that Tshwane residents would experience the coldest Sunday evening into Monday morning.

Meanwhile, the City of Tshwane’s emergency services has urged residents to stay safe during the cold conditions.

Spokesperson Charles Mabaso said it was vitally important to look out for people who were sick and frail during this time.

“Special care must be given to the elderly and frail, physically challenged and children to ensure their safety against the freezing of extremities (feet and hands).

“Move animals that may be exposed to extreme cold weather conditions to safety.”

He said residents should report incidents of fire to emergency services on 107 toll-free or directly on 012 310 6300/6400.

Residents were also reminded to adhere to the following:

– Never leave children unattended near a burning candle or open fire.

– Make sure all candles are placed in a safe candleholder.

– Never connect electricity illegally.

– Never overload electrical plugs.

– Never leave a mbaola or coal fire burning overnight without supervision

– Extinguish paraffin fires with sand or a fire extinguisher.
