Three busted for drugs and cell phone tower materials after high-speed chase
“Together, they swiftly converged to block off the suspects’ escape route at the intersection of Lavender and Braam Pretorius streets.”
A dramatic car chase – all the way from Sinoville to Mountain View – resulted in the arrest of three suspects found with stolen cell phone tower materials and crystal meth last week.
The action started when police spotted a suspicious vehicle and gave chase on the evening of Friday, July 7.
“The crime prevention unit asked for backup to head off the suspects trying to evade arrest,” said acting Tshwane police spokesperson Captain Daniel Mavimbela .
He said the officers also called the R03 private security company and K9 for backup.
Ultimately, a collaboration between the Sinoville SAPS and CPF as well as private security companies led to the arrests.
The communication was made possible through a partnership via the Sinoville CPF radio.
R03 and the police’s K9 unit quickly responded to the backup call and sprang into action to reinforce the police.
“Together, they swiftly converged to block off the suspects’ escape route at the intersection of Lavender and Braam Pretorius streets.”
Mavimbela said Security Med 24 positioned themselves behind the suspects’ Hyundai i20 as it entered Sinoville.
Although the suspect’s vehicle slipped through the blockade, the team, now consisting of private security companies, the CPF and Sinoville SAPS, pursued the fleeing suspects against the flow of traffic.
He said the suspects steered drove south, across the mountain, into Steve Biko Road.
“Undeterred, the chase continued as the suspects turned right onto Paul Kruger, hurtling along Fred Nicolson Street.”
The pursuit reached its climax as the chase veered into Mountain View.
“In Felix Street, the pursuit team’s combined effort brought the suspects to a halt to apprehend them.”
All three suspects were handed over to the Sinoville SAPS.
Mavimbela said that stolen items were recovered, including “a generator battery, two cell phone tower units, approximately six metro copper cables”.
Break-in tools were also recovered.
A substance believed to be crystal meth was also recovered.
The suspects are charged with possession of illegal drugs and stolen property.
They will appear in court soon.
Sinoville CPF spokesperson Lizette du Plooy praised the collaboration.
“The CPF radios have yielded many successes over the years and we are fortunate to have them as part of our network,” she said.
Sinoville station commander Colonel Sello Modise also congratulated the Sinoville CPF and security companies for their “exemplary support”.
“Their steadfast commitment to implementing best practices has played a pivotal role in ensuring that Sinoville remains a haven of safety for law-abiding citizens,” said Modise.
