East residents still without electricity

“There is a part of Equestria that is not yet restored; teams are still investigating the reason, so we don't have an estimated time of restoration yet.”

Some parts of the Equestria in the Pretoria East are still without power following the Wapadrand substation tripping on Sunday.

Ward 80 councillor Jacqui Uys confirmed that there were a few households that did not have power in her area.

“There is a part of Equestria that is not yet restored; teams are still investigating the reason, so we don’t have an estimated time of restoration yet,” Uys said.

After being out for more than 48 hours, electricity did come back on Wednesday but tripped again and has yet to be restored.

To add to the already troubling challenge for residents, thieves stole a power cable at the Njala substation on Wednesday.

This substation feeds Watloo 1, Mamelodi 1,2,3, Wapadrand, Mooikloof, Koedoespoort and Heartherly.

Ward 44 councillor Christo van den Heever, told Rekord that power had been restored in his area by Thursday.

“Power has been restored in our area around 03:00. The substation is also fixed, but there are still a few things that the technicians must work on,” Van Heerver said.

He thanked residents for exercising extreme patience under the circumstance, adding that it was not easy but they understood.

Recently, the metro has been struggling to supply residents with stable electricity and water.

Last week, mayor Cilliers Brink confirmed that large parts of the city were without water.

Brink said the problem occurred last weekend when, at short notice, Rand Water informed Tshwane that a power outage affected its capacity to supply water.

He said that the municipality was reliant on the utility, which supplied about 70% of its water.

Brink said since December, the city had experienced no monthly water or water-pressure issues.
