Tshwane warns of possible water supply interruption in Centurion

Highveld, Louwlardia, Rooihuiskraal and The Reeds will be affected on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.

Planned water network upgrades in The Reeds extension 63 will affect the water supply in parts of Centurion next week.

The planned work will take place on Tuesday, July 18 and Wednesday, July 19 from 08:00 to 16:00.

The metro said that the work on the R101 Old Johannesburg Road will be carried out in two phases.

The parts of Centurion that will be affected by the upgrade work include:

– Highveld extensions 8, 9, 11, 12, 32, 37, 38, 39, 44 and 47
– Louwlardia ext. 34, 48, 60, 76 and 77)
– Rooihuiskraal ext. 3 and 20 and
– The Reeds ext. 10, 19, 20, 39 and 63

The upgrades come as the city still grapples with water supply problems.

It urged residents to continue using water sparingly and make water-conservation part of their lifestyle.

The metro offered the following guidelines:

– Do not water or irrigate gardens with hosepipes or sprinkler systems between 06:00 and 18:00.

– Do not wash vehicles with hosepipes.

– Do not fill swimming pools.

– Install low-flow shower heads and tap aerators where possible.

– Use dual-flush toilet cisterns.

– Plant indigenous or drought-resistant shrubs in the garden.

– Use a broom instead of a hosepipe when cleaning driveways and patios.

– Collect rainwater to reuse in the garden or wash the car.

– Cover the swimming pool to reduce water evaporation.

– Take a short shower rather than a bath.

– Close the running tap while brushing teeth or while shaving.

– Regularly check toilets and taps for leaks.
