Temperatures expected to warm from Sunday

Weather SA expects temperatures to warm into next week, while early forecasts show another cold weekend can be expected in Pretoria.

Temperatures are set to warm slightly on Sunday, July 16, continuing into next week, according to the South African Weather Service (SAWS).

Residents in Pretoria awoke to a cold Saturday, with temperatures dropping to 4°C overnight, and reaching a high of 16°C.

The evening is expected to drop to 10°C with Partly cloudy weather.
Sunday will start with clear skies, dipping to a minimum of 5°C, and reaching a high of 19°C.

A light southerly wind will bring evening temperatures to 12°C.

The new week will start with yet more warm temperatures, with Monday and

Tuesday both reaching an overnight low of 7°C, and highs of 20°C.

SAWS early forecasts show temperatures peaking on Wednesday at 8°C and 21°C, before temperatures rapidly decrease into the weekend.

Friday next week is set to reach maximums of only 13°C.

Vulnerable groups, including the elderly, very young children and sick people can be more susceptible to the cold.

Tshwane emergency services spokesperson, Deputy-Chief Charles Mabaso, said that animals are also vulnerable and should be moved to safety in cold weather conditions.

Mabaso reminded residents to be aware of fire safety and offered the following tips:

– Never leave children unattended near a burning candle or open fire,

– Make sure all candles are placed in a safe candleholder,

– Never connect electricity illegally,

– Do not overload electrical plugs,

– Never leave a mbaola or coal fire burning overnight without supervision,

– Extinguish paraffin fires with sand or a fire extinguisher.

Report Fire incidents to Tshwane emergency services on 107 toll-free or directly on 012 310 6300/6400.
