Loftus moots ban of sports hooligans after stadium fracas

Some social media users said they would never visit the stadium with their family due to the recent fights at the sporting events.

Rugby is loved by millions. Pretoria’s Loftus stadium, however, has a major task in ensuring that fans who attend matches, remain safe while watching their favourite sport.

This has been highlighted by the recent brawls during an international match at the stadium where random remarks led to flying fists.

Loftus stadium management confirmed that it is now engaging its technology service providers to explore tools to introduce stadium bans for offending fans.

The management acknowledged that it would take a long time to put these measures in place, but they are confident it will help reduce violent altercations.

Video footage of spectators throwing punches at each other during a Springbok vs Wallabies game on July 8 has been doing the rounds.

Social media users immediately insisted that those involved be banned from attending games, fined and called on the stadium to create family-friendly sections at the Loftus Versfeld stadium, which has a capacity of over 50 000 spectators.

Stadium management indicated that they are attending to this matter in as speedy a time frame as possible.
