No water, power for some ward 61 residents
The ward councillor appeals to residents to stop illegal connections.

Some parts of Itireleng in ward 61, Laudium have been without power for the past 72 hours.
According to Councillor Naheem Patel, this was due to illegal connections by residents in the area.
“We have engaged residents with this matter previously and we have also reported the matter to the metro but it has not been resolved as yet,” Patel said.
The councillor said the constant power outages in the area were mainly due to these connections.
On Tuesday, the power went off due to a faulty cable. It is believed to be caused by overheating due to illegal connections, according to the councillor’s office.
“Power has been restored to most areas in the ward. There is a fault on one panel affecting parts of Bengal, Taj, and Himalaya streets.
“The Hills in Itireleng will remain off as illegal connections are causing the panels to trip,” Patel added.
However, the councillor promised residents that as soon as these illegal connections were removed, the metro would come and inspect the line and later restore power.
He further said the metro managed to cancel load-shedding in the area for the day to allow residents to continue their daily routines.
While there was a power outage, some residents were also without water in the area which did not sit well with them.
Ruby Buddan said the situation was out of hand adding that she could not understand why the metro took this long to fix things.
“This is unacceptable, it’s been more than 24 hours,” Buddan exclaimed.
Another resident Manu Nathalal said the situation was an ongoing thing.
“This is happening every day,” Nathalal added.
The office of Councillor Patel issued a statement warning people about the water outage.
“The teams have dug and have another challenge as a water pipe burst. The team is awaiting feedback from the water department.
“No work can continue until the burst water pipe is repaired. We have liaised with the water department to send a team urgently,” the statement read.
