Over three months pipe leak in Queenswood to be repaired soon
The metro is looking at starting repairs on Monday, July 24.
Motorists travelling along Corry Street in Queenswood, have for the past three months passed a stream of water leaking from a meter.
They will be happy to learn that the leak is expected to be repaired soon.
With so many water challenges in Tshwane, the pipe leaks and bursts are evidence that the city needs to invest in new water infrastructure.
Thousands of litres of water have been going to waste since this leak started.
A resident Reinhardt Venter said there was a previous leak before this recent one.
RESIDENTS FIRST REPORTED THE LEAK IN JANUARY
The first leak was reported on January 2.
“The Tshwane metro responded to our reports on January 18 and fixed the leak,” Venter said.
Venter said this leak on the pavement was reported on April 20, the day it started.
The pipe was damaged when a tree was cut down but stump not removed.
“Unfortunately the metro told me they are waiting for the Regional Urban Forestry to come and remove the stump so that the leak can be fixed,” Venter told Rekord.
The Metro waisted about 4 752 litres due to water leaks
Venter said he estimated that the city has lost about 4 752 litres.
The metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the technician teams are waiting for the removal of the tree.
“The tree trunk is still there and removal thereof could hamper the repair of the water leak.”
Mashigo said the trunk is on top of the pipeline and if not removed with proper caution could cause additional damage, which will prolong the repair.
Lack of Resources results in taking long to fix damaged pipes
He said resource shortages have also added to the delays to fix this pipeline.
Mashigo confirmed that the pipeline repairs will commence soon.
“Repairs of the water leak will be started on Monday, July 24 and we are hopeful that it might be completed the same day.”
He said the replacement of old and worn-out water reticulation systems and pipelines is ongoing during each financial year.
