The Sinoville Firefighting association (SBBV) added their third vehicle to the fleet of fire fighting vehicles on Saturday.

The official launch of the new vehicle was held at the SBBV located on the premises of Botha Rekenmeesters corner of 3rd road and Doctor Swanepoel Road, Montana, Pretoria.

Johan Botha from the SBBV said we want other townships or provinces to see what the association has accomplished and achieved with the support of the community.

He said we would like this organisation to be an example to townships and other provinces out there.

“Many townships especially in rural areas there are no fire brigades, there is no help if there is an emergency. What we are doing here can be used as an example,” said Botha.

“We hope people will stand up and say they are not going to wait for the government to provide and do it themselves,” he said.

The new vehicle can extinguish fires and has foam unit, Jaws of Life and we can at least act in any situation to save the public.

He added the Sinoville fire fighter association has so far saved so many lives, many properties because we are the first on the scene because we are in the community and act quickly.

The launch was attended by the Sinoville police station, Tshwane community safety MMC, Grandi Theunissen, Theo De Jager from Southern African Agri Initiative (SAAI), MMC for economic development and spatial planning councillor Hannes Coetzee and the community at large.

Tshwane community safety MMC, Grandi Theunissen said it’s a privilege to attend this function of unveiling the new vehicle donated by the community for the community.

He said that is his vision for Tshwane metro.

“I know Tshwane metro does not have the capacity or resources to serve the entire community as they should be served,” said Theunissen.

Therefore my approach is to reach out to the community to take hands which we have does last week and that the starts maybe we will go onto other levels rather than just in the City of Tshwane.

Zenobia Loock-Du Plessis from the firefighting association said the SBBV is a registered Public benefit organisation and a non-profit organisation actively preventing and combating fires in and around our area.

She said: “We work closely with other firefighting associations in the neighbourhood areas, the police and the local community policing sub forums.”

“We serve to save” is our vision and the core focus is fire, rescue and disaster prevention.

“Our trained voluntary members provide service in the greater Sinoville and Pretoria Northern suburbs in the combating and preventing of fires complementing the services the City of Tshwane fire brigade- Wonderboom Fire station and the ALBBV,” she said.

Botha added with the sponsorship from the public we have trained our first black lady to be a fire fighter.

She concluded the flame that we are proud of, started to burn on 28 June 2014 when the public was introduced to SBBV with humble beginnings, a small but dedicated team that kindled this flame into a burning torch, lighting the way to greater heights and achievements.
