Gauteng Metrorail to run select train lines on Saturdays
Residents are urged to be on the lookout for Saturday schedules on social media platforms.
Gauteng Metrorail has extended its services to Saturday, the commuter train operator has announced.
On July 22, Metrorail conducted a testing system where trains were operating only for a limited time.
The train service will run during the morning and afternoon peak periods to allow infrastructure contractors to continue with the work to ensure that the railway is available and in good condition for the much-needed service.
Metrorail said the introduction of the Saturday service was a result of its continuous effort to provide a safe and affordable mode of transport.
Metrorail said the official introduction of the limited Saturday commuter train service will be effective from July 29.
Tshwane residents expressed their excitement about the extension.
Soshanguve resident, Refiloe Mojela said that she is happy about the extension because she will now spend less money to travel to town.
“Using a train is much more convenient as some of us don’t have enough money to use any other mode of transport,” she said.
Mabopane resident Lorraine Ngobeni said the announcement was exciting news because she can now travel to work using a train.
“I have used trains almost my whole life. Metrorail has given us the most trusted and safest mode of transport that we can use to travel daily either to work or for children to go to school,” she said.
The service will run between 05:00-09:00 and 15:00-19:00 between selected stations on the Mabopane, Saulsville and Centurion lines.
Metrorail has urged residents to familiarise themselves with the train schedule available on its social media platforms including commuter WhatsApp groups and stations.
