A total of 308 suspects arrested during operation Shanela
The police arrested 308 for various crimes including dealing and possession of illegal drugs, possession of illegal firearms, involvement in armed robbery, rape and gender based violence.
The police recently arrested 308 during operation Shanela in Hercules.
The police in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies have swiftly removed 308 transgressors from society through the high intensity operation Shanela.
The clampdown on criminal activity under the leadership of Major-General Azwinndini Nengovhela, took place at Hercules Policing Precinct.
The operation encompassed high-visibility patrols in crime hotspots, compliance inspections, and raids on illegal liquor outlets.
Additionally, members from various SAPS stations and units operating within the Tshwane Policing area played integral roles.
During the operation, Tshwane Detective teams effectively apprehended 284 suspects, including 113 individuals involved in gender-based violence, 3 charged with murder, 1 with attempted murder, 2 involved in armed robbery, and 8 apprehended for rape.
The district police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said the operation was supported by three uniformed groups comprising two compliance teams and a roadblock unit.
“13 liquor outlets were inspected, resulting in the closure of four outlets and the confiscation of 300 109ml alcohol bottles for violating the liquor act.”
Furthermore, four suspects were apprehended for dealing in dagga, and 3,686 Kilograms of dagga were seized.
Two suspects were arrested for drug possession, with 41 Nyaope and 226 Crystal Meth ziplock plastic bags confiscated.
All seized dagga and drugs will be destroyed once the criminal cases have been finalised.
“In addition, 18 undocumented immigrants were detained, and 222 Aarto fines, totaling R177,400, were issued during a multidisciplinary roadblock,” Van Dyk said.
An intelligence-driven operation also led to the recovery of three firearms, four magazines, and six 9mm rounds, with two suspects arrested.
“These firearms will undergo ballistic analysis to determine any potential involvement in other criminal activities,” he stated.
Throughout the course of this operation, a total of 1,013 individuals and 550 vehicles underwent search procedures.
Major-General Azwinndini Nengovhela extended his heartfelt appreciation and congratulations to all members who selflessly participated in this highly successful operation.
