Tshwane’s metro changes its meter reading scheduling

“We were given timetables on when our meter readings must be submitted, and I captured mine on time and I also submitted it on time.”

Residents who have queries regarding their meter readings are urged to visit their local metro customer care centre.

This comes after the majority of residents complained about their billing despite submitting their correct readings.

Mandisa Makinana of The Reeds in Centurion told Rekord that the metro billed her incorrectly though she captured her readings accurately.

“I submitted my readings on time and accurately as was expected but to my surprise when I got my bill, there was a total opposite of what I captured and sent to the municipality,” Makinana said.

Groenkloof ward 59 resident Evodia Strydom said she also encountered the same issue as Makinana even though the ward WhatsApp group stipulated how to submit the readings.

“We were given timetables on when our meter readings must be submitted, and I captured mine on time and I also submitted it on time.

“However, when I got my bill, things were literally different from what I submitted, I even had to double-check,” said Strydom.

The metro’s spokesperson Lindela Mashigo told Rekord that the municipality had changed its billing and meter readings schedule.

“As of July 25, 2023, we are back to normal meter readings and billing schedule. Clients who prefer to submit readings can do so in line with the normal approved metering and billing calendar,” Mashigo said.

Both Makinana and Strydom said they were not made aware of the scheduling changes.

On how clients whose meters are encased in a protective box and can’t access them, he said those were done so as to protect them and to keep them safe.

“As such, clients will not have access to those meters and only City officials can open the structures,” he said.
