Two marches in the CBD today

The first march, led by ActionSA, will start at 09:00 at the Old Putco Depot in Marabastad. The second march by People Power of Movement starts at 10:00 from the Union Buildings.

Various roads in the Pretoria CBD will be affected by two marches on Thursday.

The first march will be led by ActionSA.

According to Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba, the purpose of the march is to raise concerns over crime in the area.

Participants will gather from 09:00 at the Old Putco Depot in Marabastad before marching to the Telkom Towers.

The following streets will be affected:

– Schubart Street
– Paul Kruger Street
– Johannes Ramokhoase Street
– Cowie Street
– Struben Street
– WF Nkomo Street.

The marchers are expected to disperse at 13:00.

“Tshwane metro police will be deployed to monitor the march and all affected streets,” Mahamba said.

Motorists are advised to use these alternative routes:

– Bosman Street
– Bloed Street
– Kgosi Mampuru Street
– Es’kia Mphahlele Drive
– Francis Baard Street

At the same time, a second march led by the People Power of Movement is expected to start from the Union buildings at 10:00.

Mahamba said the purpose of the march was to call attention to alleged human rights violations in Uganda.

The following streets will be affected:

– Leyds Street
– Francis Baard Street
– Pretorius Street
– Eastwood Street
– Pine street
– Park Street

The march is expected to end at 13:00.

The metro police will be deployed to monitor the march and motorists are advised to use these alternative routes:

– Madiba Street
– Tom Jenkins Drive
– Wessels Street.
